We are the home of and proud ßeta testers of the GREAT text editor Tetrahedron.
by Chris K. Thomas
Hi. My name is Christopher K. Thomas, and I’m a Happy programmer… I’ve written Tetrahedron as a replacement for all those text editing DAs I had in my Apple menu, things like PowerEdit, McSink, JoliWrite, miniWRITER and whatever. Those were such a pain in the ass to use that I decided to write my own. However, I made it an application, primarily because System 7 allows applications in the Apple menu, and I don’t use System 6.
Tetrahedron has the following features that no single one of the above has:
•Stability. No sudden system errors.
•Multiple documents. You can edit more than one document at once. You can open as many documents as you have memory for. I’ve had twenty documents open on a 2 meg SE/30, and I could have opened more.
•Normal printing. Prints just fine with any printer you want to use.
•32-bit Clean. Use it with a Quadra!
•Simplicity. Very simple, easy to use, has a normal Macintosh interface.
•You can double click on documents in the Finder to edit them! This feature alone was the primary reason for writing Tetrahedron as an application. One effect of this ability is that the text documents produced by Tetrahedron have nice-looking Finder icons instead of the plain old document icon.
And it has these features which most high-end word processors do not have:
•Loads quickly. Has no annoying splash screen, gets you right to your document (the shareware DA miniWRITER also has this problem).
•Great for jotting down quick notes.
•Really cool for writing and editing ZTerm .zts scripts.
•It runs quickly on system 7 with 2 meg of memory!
Anyway, I like it. Remember, the DAs mentioned before may have special features that you like, and that Tetrahedron doesn’t have. If that’s true, then go ahead and use the other ones. It doesn’t bother me. Personally, I’ve tried them all and I like this much better. But then, I also wrote this. So you’ll have to judge for yourself.
